4 Simple Steps to Minimise Unwanted Calls
Although it is difficult to completely eliminate nuisance callers, there are steps you can take to reduce the number of calls that get through.
Step 1: Register home and mobile phone numbers with The Telephone Preference Service. It's a free service that allows you to opt out of receiving unsolicited live sales and marketing calls.
Step 2: Research and activate home phone providers’ call blocking features. Most landline phone companies now provide a free service to reduce the number of nuisance calls.
- BT provides Call Protect.
- Sky Talk Shield is available from Sky.
- Callsafe is available as a standard feature from TalkTalk.
- Virgin Media offers a less sophisticated call rejection feature for £3 per month.
Step 3: If the phone provider does not offer call blocking and you don’t want to replace the phone, you can purchase a call blocking device and plug it into an existing handset. Example: CPR V5000
Step 4: If using an Android phone or iPhone, you can add numbers to a blocked list, reject unknown callers entirely, or set a do not disturb mode that only allows calls from specific numbers. Follow our detailed instructions to activate the settings.
