NHS wheelchairs
If you need a wheelchair for six months or longer, the NHS can provide one for free, on long-term loan.
To get started, ask your GP to refer you to a wheelchair assessment centre. After your assessment, if you meet the criteria, you’ll be given a wheelchair. The key criteria are that the wheelchair is needed for regular use (at least three days a week) and that you have a mobility issue lasting more than six months or require palliative care.
Rental
Keep in mind that it can take up to three months to get an assessment. If you need a wheelchair sooner, you can hire one from the Red Cross for about £22 a week while you wait. Learn more->
